The Sweeney Foundation Has Been Recognized as a 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Organization

We are proud to announce that the Sweeney Foundation has received federal tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

This recognition is a meaningful milestone for our organization — and for everyone who has supported us since the Foundation was established earlier this year in memory of Sam Sweeney.

What this means for donors
Contributions to the Sweeney Foundation are now tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Whether you give through Zelle, by check, or at a future fundraising event, your donation goes directly toward our three core purposes:

• Supporting families in the Crystal Lake and surrounding areas facing sudden hardship
• Developing young tennis players in our community
• Funding scholarships and financial assistance through community events

What’s next
The Foundation’s first major fundraising event is the Sweeney Memorial Bracket Open (SMBO), an annual tennis tournament held in honor of Sam. Proceeds support our hardship assistance and scholarship programs.

We are grateful to the Crystal Lake tennis community, and to everyone who loved Sam, for making this Foundation possible. He was a player, a coach, friend, father, and a presence that shaped this community. We carry that forward.
